My son is in 3rd grade. He's the kind of kid who asks why about everything, has strong opinions about dinosaurs, and for the better part of a year, completely shut down when it was time to do math.
He was in regular school. His teacher had 28 other kids. By the time she got around to the ones who needed more time on something, the class had already moved on. He'd come home knowing he was behind but not knowing how to fix it. We pulled him out and started homeschooling, hoping more control over the pace would help.
It helped a little. But then we ran into the same wall every online curriculum runs into. He'd watch a lesson. Get to the practice problems. Get stuck. And there was just... nothing. No one there. He'd sit with it for a few minutes, then come find me or his mom. We'd walk him through it, he'd get it, and then the exact same thing would happen again the next day.
I kept thinking, this is the whole problem. The content isn't the issue. Every platform teaches fractions fine. The problem is what happens the moment a child gets confused and there's nobody there to ask.
Every platform we tried had the same flaw: they could teach, but they couldn't respond. There was no one actually there with him.
When we finished building the AI teacher and switched him over, I wasn't expecting much. He sat down at the table and started a lesson on his own. At some point he got stuck on something and I watched him type a question into the chat. The AI asked him what he thought equal parts meant, and walked him from there. He never came to get me. He just kept going.
He worked through everything he had been stuck on for months in about a week. I don't say that to sell you on anything. I say it because it was the first time I watched him sit with something hard and actually come out the other side on his own.
That's why we built this. Not because we had a clever idea. Because we had a child who needed it.
